We want to skate.
For the rainy days and for when we don’t want to drive to a busy skate park, we thought we’d make our own Skateboard Mini Ramp Room.
A joint venture started between Driift and Basement Martial Arts, bringing a made-to-measure, handmade, Indoor Skateboard Mini Ramp to the local community.
The purpose built ramp room will be located inside the Stevenage based fight gym.
It’s perfect to get the skaters and fighters talking. There’s no reason to stay in your lane with this, no one should miss out.
To make the most out of the room within Basement Martial Arts, we had to use all the space available. The constraints of the room will make this bespoke build a challenge to design, and to build. That’s why the planning and attention to detail has to be on point. It is important for this ramp to be a optimal for its environment.
The ramp is 12ft Wide x 24ft Long and is 3ft High, which makes it perfect for the beginners looking to get into the sport, for the intermediates looking to progress their skating, where a 4ft ramp is just a bit too intimidating, and for the advanced skaters that are looking for a fun indoor experience to keep them on their toes.
The plan is to build this ramp from quality material, using 18mm Marine Birch Ply on the transitions. Pressure treated 4 x 2 joists and 2 layers of 9mm Marine Birch Ply for the skating surface. And for the coping we will use 50mm steel.
All coming together after a few weeks of graft, we can now introduce ‘The Skate Piit’.
