Exploring the Iconic Peak District Hike that Leads to the Crown of England
Nestled within the heart of England’s Peak District National Park, Jacobs Ladder is a hiking trail that beckons adventurers from far and wide. This historic footpath, carved into the rugged landscape of Kinder Scout, has long been a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a taste of wilderness, history, and stunning panoramic views. We embarked on a journey to discover the allure of Jacobs Ladder and the wonders of Kinder Scout.
Jacobs Ladder, often referred to simply as “Jacobs,” serves as the gateway to Kinder Scout. We Started at the picturesque village of Hayfield, it’s here that we began ascent of this challenging yet incredibly rewarding route.
The path takes you through rolling hills before the real adventure begins. As you make your way upward, the lush green fields gradually give way to rocky terrain, and the distant views of Kinder Scout become more captivating with each step.
The name “Jacobs Ladder” hints at the steepness of the climb ahead, with a series of stone steps leading up the hillside.

Kinder Scout presents a challenging yet invigorating terrain for hikers. As you ascend Jacobs Ladder, the steep climb may leave you breathless, but the promise of what lies ahead keeps you going. As the sun began to set and we lost the natural light the city of Manchester really came to life.
Our trek was 18.6 km with an elevation gain of 722 metres and we camped out at around 600 metres.
